An Overview of Space Robotics Technology in Japan for Lunar or Planetary Exploration
نویسنده
چکیده
Nowadays, new lunar or planetary exploration missions including landers and rovers have been earnestly studied in Japan. Those missions will follow up a lunar global remote sensing mission Kaguya or a small body sample return mission Hayabusa. Space robotics technologies make a lot of important roles in order to achieve those missions. They will cover a pin-point landing technology, a reliable landing scheme with obstacle avoidance, a safe landing mechanism on rough terrain, an exploration rover, a tele-science and tele-operation technology, an automated construction etc. This paper firstly introduces future lunar or planetary exploration plans in detail, which consist of lunar, Mars and asteroid exploration. Then this paper presents a robotics technology roadmap based on deep space exploration. JAXA has developed some test-bed robots. This paper also introduces the detail of the developed robots and shows some experimental results.

In Japan new lunar or planetary exploration missions including landers and rovers are earnestly under study. Those missions will follow up SELENE (SELenoligical Engineering Explorer), a lunar global remote sensing mission. One of main missions for lunar robotics exploration in post SELENE missions is to demonstrate the technologies for lunar or planetary surface exploration and human activities...

متن کاملRobotic Assistance, Mobility & Vision Systems – Enabling Technology for Early Human-robotic Lunar Exploration
In the 21 st Century, space exploration will focus on surface exploration, with human-robotic collaboration allowing extended-duration stays at challenging lunar and planetary sites. This paper focuses on three early phases of lunar exploration: (i) in-situ characterisation and site survey for science, prospecting and reconnaissance in advance of human sorties (ii) in-situ human sortie field as...
متن کاملRobot Mobility Systems for Planetary Surface Exploration – State-of-the-Art and Future Outlook: A Literature Survey
Mobile robots have been an essential element of space exploration to perform science on distant lunar and planetary objects. Past orbiter missions to Moon have shown evidence on the presence of ice inside the permanently shadowed polar areas. Similarly, Mars holds clues of life in the distant past. While data sent by orbiters provides a wealth of information and gives rise to new speculations a...
